How did the federal government under van buren respond to the panic of 1837?

    They tried to create an independent treasury that would allow not allow state banks to access. Van Buren and his advisers hoped that by doing so, it would be able the economy of the US. It took years before this law was passed. Along the way, there were many people who were against of the idea of creating an independent treasury.
