The Liberty Ships was a class of cargo ships built in the United States during WWII. They followed a British design but adjustments were made in America. They were made to supply Britain with new ships that would replace cargo vessels sunk by the Germans. Eighteen American shipyards built 2,710 Liberty Ships between 1941 and 1945. They were a symbol of US industrial wartime might.
