How did the legacy of social changes in the 1960's continue to reverberate in the 1970's, leading to both new opportunities and political disagreement?

    The 1960's was characterised by increased liberalisation of society and several civil rights concessions. These did not go well with the southern American society who opposed the concessions. As a result, the 1970's saw increased conservatism in USA and the shift of the southern populations to the republic party and the North to the Democratic party.
