Separate and unequal.

One of the changes that occurred after World War II was an executive order signed by President Harry Truman in 1948, which prohibited racial discrimination in the US Armed Forces. Eventually, this led to integration of the military.

The 1954 Supreme Court decision in the case of Brown vs. the Board of Education began the integration of schools in America.

Further changes for black Americans gaining civil rights would follow as the civil rights movement progressed in the 1960s.
