Military operations ceased in 1898 on August 12, when signed a peace protocol in Washington between Spain and U. S.

After more than two months of hard negotiations, the Treaty of Paris signed in 1898 on December 10 and ratified by the US Senate on 6th Feb 1899. The U. S acquired Spanish colonies in Guam, the Philippines, and Puerto Rico.
