Some historians believe that the Civil War was caused by a failure of the American political system, during the fifty years before the war, to solve problems arising from states' rights and the expansion of slavery into the west. Other historians believe that the causes of the Civil War reside in a basic failure of the constitution to provide a framework for solving these problems. Evaluate the strength of both interpretations and explain which interpretation is more valid.

Every time the Civil War comes up I've always heard the same thing: it was because of racism and I agree.

I would say it's the first one in case of what you've provided. The second doesn't really make sense in my mind and honestly is a little weak at it's basis to provide an argument. Especially when you take into consideration of the events leading up to the Civil War. You can't come up with a law to fix racism or appease prejudice in any sort of way, I was going to use WW2 as an example of that but the Civil War is an example too. If you remember in World War 2, the Brits thought that by letting Hitler do as he wanted and giving into his demands he would knock it off that first time around. That's just not how that works. Even then when the North agreed to give back any slaves to that managed to escape from the south nothing was fixed.

That's at it's simplest and just my thoughts. If you have any more questions or would like me to add on let me know.
