The Glorious Revolution of 1688-1689, also called Revolutioin of 1688 or Bloodless Revolution, replaced the reigning king, James II, with the joint monarchy of his protestant daughter Mary and her Dutch husband, William of Orange. It was the keystone of the Whig (those opposed to a Catholic succession) history of Britain.

One of the main effects of the Glorious revolution on the English Monarchy was the Fear of Catholic tyranny after the deposition of king James due to his policies of religious tolerance and It ended all attempts by England in the Anglo-Dutch Wars of the 17th century to subdue the Dutch Republic by military force.
