    Archduke Franz Ferdinand was the nephew of Emperor Franz Josef.

    He was shot to death along with his wife by a Serbian nationalist in Sarajevo, Bosnia, while his visit in Sarajevo, on 28 June 1914.

    Austria-Hungary blamed the Serbian government for the attack and o n July 28, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia.
