The Great Leap Forward was a five-year development program introduced by Mao Zedong and the Communist Party of China, launched in 1958 and abandoned in 1961. The Great Leap Forward resulted in 30-55 million deaths from hunger, execution and forced labor, along with significant economic and environmental devastation
