    Five months and 1,645 miles later, Geronimo was followed to his quarters in Mexico's Sonora Mountains. Fatigued, and unfortunately outnumbered, Geronimo abandoned in Sonora, Mexico. Several Apaches hesitantly allowed to reside on reservations. Crook operated Apaches against each other. He granted them grounds to become scouts for the U. S. Army and commence the quest for Apaches who declined to give in.
