    The primary positive effect of the Columbian exchange was the introduction of New World crops, such as potatoes and corn, to the old world.

    Explanation:

    The Columbian exchange is considered to be the most important during the modernisation period where the varied variety of new types of crops grown and largely it catered the entire need of the new world.

    The crops like potatoes and corn are grown and it is particularly benefited the European people. What made it harmful was large number of African population has been migrated to their places as slaves to work in their agricultural fields.

    This migration of workers has led to the spread of diseases such as smallpox, measles, chickenpox, influenza, malaria, and yellow fever. The American native's immune is not that strong as Europeans, so the native peoples were greatly affected by the diseases.
