American leaders sought to draft the Constitution as a new plan of government. Why had the previous plan failed?

    The confederation was the result of many states coming together to defend themselves from future British or foreign invasions, but failed to create a body that was able to raise and mantain an army and had less power than the individuals that formed it, the american leaders saw that and soon they needed to draft the constitution to give more power to the central federal government and in that way the nation could have a permanent leader and direction.
