    2. They claimed vast areas of land for Spain.

    4. They brought much financial gain to Spain.

    Explanation:

Throughout the 15th and following centuries, the Spanish conquest of the American territories covered the Caribbean, Central America, South America and, in North America, the western territories to Alaska in the North and Florida in the southeast, territories to which the 1763 was added Louisiana after the Treaty of Paris comprising more than twelve thousand kilometers from north to south. Juan Ponce de León named La Florida in 1513, when he took it in the name of the crown of Spain. Until 1563 the Spaniards sent several expeditions to explore it, but without lifting any stable fortifications. However, the presence in 1564 of a large contingent of French Huguenots, who raised a fort at the mouth of the San Juan River, posed a serious threat that led Spain to the decision to establish a permanent military presence in the area. On August 28, 1565, Pedro Menéndez de Avilés founded the city of San Agustín. It is the oldest European settlement occupied today in the USA.
