This is an annual celebration held on May 5, which is observed to commemorate the Mexican Army's unlikely victory over French forces under the leadership of General Zaragoza. In the U. S., the date has become associated with the celebration of Mexican-American culture.

For the rest of the world who's been part or was under the administration of Latin-American culture, cuisine and music; this day is also celebrated. Some of these locations include: Windsor, Ontario, Canada, Cayman Islands, in the Caribbean, Montego Bay, Jamaica, city of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, in Cape Town, South Africa, Lagos, Nigeria, and in Paris. Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in Japan in Osaka and in Tokyo's Yoyogi Park Event Space as a celebration of Latin American culture.
