What does "No taxation without representation in Parliament" mean?

    "No taxation without representation" was a slogan used by the American colonists before the American Revolution. The phrase meant that they would not accept new taxes from the British Parliament if the colonies were not represented. At the time, the Parliament was filled only with citizens of Great Britain; no colonists were in it, so the colonies had no say in whether or not taxes should be added.
