    D. Slaves of both genders were imported to the Americas, as the women could still do much of the labor needed, as well as assuring future generations of slaves. British merchants participated in the trade for almost 2 centuries before the anti-slavery movement in England led to British merchants giving up the trade.

    Life expectancy in South America and the West Indies was fairly short, given the tropical climate and diseases.
