    1833 is when they passed the Slavery Abolition Act. 1838 is when slaves were fully free. Therefore Britain abolished slavery in 1833, before the United States did.

    "in 1833, before the United States did" is correct. It should be noted that the British passed a law in 107 that prohibited the sale and trade of slaves, but not the institution itself.
