    As a result of short lifespans, remarriage was most common among planters in southern colonies.

    Man and women married as the beliefs and customs of the colonial times dictated. But short lifespans were common in that time due to many cases. So when husband or wife died, remarriage was the next step. Southern people kept on living and taking care of the big plantations and producing the cash crops so needed for their economy.
