    Invariably means in every case or occasion, always.

    The correct answer is C. Without change

    Variably comes from the verb to vary which means to change. Invariably is the opposite of that meaning that there is no change at all. Thoughtlessly means that he didn't think about it while he can invariably think something without being careful about it. Going back and forth is another concept also not related to the sentence.
