The Cherokees wanted to keep their land and their partial autonomy within their territory, and since they were peaceful and collaborative with the authorities, and were also assimilated into the American culture and all of them were speaking English, there was really not a reason for the US authorities to be offensive towards them. But the Us authorities had other plans in mind, and they started taking their land, cut of their partial autonomy, and thus the conflict appeared, with the losing side being the Cherokees.
