    Loyalist

    Explanation:

In "The Crisis" by Thomas Paine, he challenged the loyalists. Below is an excerpt:

"And what is a Tory? Good God! what is he? I should not be afraid to go with a hundred Whigs against a thousand Tories, were they to attempt to get into arms. Every Tory is a coward; for servile, slavish, self-interested fear is the foundation of Toryism; and a man under such influence, though he may be cruel, never can be brave."

Loyalists were those who stayed loyal to the British Crown at the time of the American Revolutionary War and they are American colonists. These loyalists were opposed and challenged by the Patriots, like Thomas Paine, who truly were in support of the American revolution. The patriots called them "persons inimical to the liberties of America".
