In the year 1846, Brigham Young, himself and his followers were driven out from their home in Nauvoo, Illinois for their religious beliefs and were pushed west. He led his followers and ventured across Iowa to establish a new, safer home but managed to stop in Winter Quarters, Nebraska in their first onset travel. Later on a much smaller group and Young made another journey to the Rocky Mountains where they established a permanent home to escape prosecution and religious discrimination from the people of Nauvoo.
