What were the provisions of the Missouri Compromise of 1820?

States south of 36°30' would be slave states.

States north of 36°30' in the Louisiana Territory would be free.

Maine was admitted as a free state.

The Fugitive Slave Law was repealed.

Missouri was admitted as a slave state.

    The provisions of the Missouri Compromise forbidding slavery in the former Louisiana Territory north of the parallel 36°30′ north were effectively repealed by Stephen A. Douglas's Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854.
