Why was the united states interested in hawaii?

There are many reasons for this. The major being how strategic Hawaii is to the U. S. With it being so close to Asia it would be in America's best interest to have naval base within the Pacific Ocean. It made it quicker to send the navy to places such as China, Indonesia and later (as we have seen in World War 2) Japan.
