answer: They wanted their laws written down because they didn't want to get punished for breaking laws that they didn't even know existed. The laws supported equal treatment of all citizens. These laws and rights applied to all people who lived in Roman lands. and know in modern day people have laws so they dont get introuble for what they haven't done
