    It is also known as the Ardennes Counteroffensive. The aim of this battle was to stop the Allies from getting to the port of Antwerp. This would allow the Germans to ambush the Western Alliance and oblige them to negotiate a treaty of peace.

    This is considered to be the deadliest battle fought by the US in World War II.
