In 1961, Joel Salatin's parents bought the land that is now known as his Polyface Farm in Virginia. Joel Salatin (born in 1957) turned to a farming after brief stint in the early 1980s as a newspaper reporter. His farming methods are totally organic. He strives to work with nature, in strong contrast to the huge industrial sort of farming methods common in the agricultural world. He calls himself a "grass farmer" who works to make sure the cattle he raises have good grasses to consume. The cattle are eventually processed for meat supply for human consumption. All sorts of natural methods are used by Salatin - - you could look up the interesting ways he turns cattle manure into a solution rather than a problem on his farm.

Not only has Salatin written books to call attention to his methods, but his work has been featured in documentary films such as "Food, Inc." Films like "Food, Inc." have alerted consumers to the unhealthy aspects of commercial farming and have highlighted ultra-organic practices such as those of Joel Salatin.
