What were the long and short term causes of the great depression?

    The stock market crash of October 1929 is most likely the main short term cause of the Great Depression. However other contributing factors included the fact that banks deposits were not insured and this led to the failure of thousands of banks across America. Then as the depression progressed the economy faltered as spending was significantly reduces as the public was fearful for their economic futures.
