Based on The Riddle of the Rosetta Stone, what is one way in which Jean-François Champollion and Thomas Young are alike? Both became discouraged and almost gave up their attempts to decipher the hieroglyphs on the Rosetta Stone. Both learned many different languages in their attempts to decipher the hieroglyphs on the Rosetta Stone. Both eventually came to believe that the Rosetta Stone hieroglyphs represented sounds rather than things. Both studied with Sylvestre de Sacy and based much of their own research on his beliefs about the Rosetta Stone hieroglyphs.

Both eventually came to believe that the Rosetta Stone hieroglyphs represented sounds rather than things.

    Explanation:

"The Riddle of the Rosetta Stone" is an insightful book on the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics. James Cross Giblin's book deals with the ancient stone, the Rosetta stone, which was discovered in 1799 with the decree of king Ptolemy V Epiphanes written in three scripts. The first two were written in Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics and demotic scripts while the final third was written in Ancient Greek. This stone had been a source of studying hieroglyphics by historians and scholars. In the book, Giblin notes that both Jean-Francois Champollion and Thomas Young are alike. They both eventually came to believe that the Rosetta Stone hieroglyphs represented sounds rather than things. Young began working on the stone, which Champollion expanded.
