What is an embargo and how does this relate to the relationship with Cuba?

An embargo is a ban on trade with a country. And cuba was a poor country, and the US was a good trading partner for awhile, but then during the cuban missile crisis we hit them with an embargo, and this ruined any relation we had with them.
