The writers of the "The Lost Generation" felt that the America they knew was gone and could not be remedied. They criticized the American life after the exposition to the European culture, and the illusion of wealth and power spreading across the U. S. after the war, which were actually hiding the social problems such as alcohol and drug abuse, loss of values, and confusion gained from the total changes of the new century.
