Manufacturing products begins to get a lot more efficient with machines. As a result, many more goods will be exported, and the economy may get bigger. A bad side effect of this is that because of the increased efficiency, less workers will be needed, so more will be unemployed. Also, with the invention of these machines, the skill needed to manufacture products will go down, which means almost anybody can do the job. And if the manufacturers go to the poorest people willing to work for the least money, they will get the job. Seeing as the market for available jobs will go down, everyone will want a job, which means the manufacturers can take advantage of this and drive the salary down as low as possible, and also make the living conditions bad to save money. Industrialism in the West made the rich richer and the poor poorer, so we can see why Karl Marx invented socialism.
