Explain the role of the Three-Fifths Compromise at the Convention in Philadelphia.

    The southern states want slave to count as 1 person for population, so the could get more representatives in the House of Representatives, but not have them counted for tax purposes. The northern states wanted them to count for tax purpose but not for population. So the compromised and made each slave count as 3/5 of a person for both.
