Why was bowling one of the first racially integrated sports?

Located in urban, multiracial neighborhoods.

Bowling alleys were available in many urban neighborhoods and often were owned by minority persons. As a result of bowling alleys being readily available they quickly became integrated. Bowling alleys gave different people an outlet to participate with less fear of racial discrimination than found in other sports. Bowling was also less publicized making it easier for minorities to rise to fame and success.
