What was America's foreign policy regarding European wars prior to world war 1 and how was it challenged during the war

    Prior to World War I, the United States was largely disinterested in being involved in the complicated web of frenemies in Europe.

    This changed when Germany U-Boats started attacking US vessels in the North Atlantic.
