    D. Jefferson allowed the Alien and Sedition Acts to expire and end. The Laws had originally been put into place as an attempt to keep Federalists in power, namely John Adams. The rise in the number of immigrants that had come in and were voting for Democratic-Republicans was going to affect the elections and possibly put the D-R's in power. The laws ensured that Federalists were out.
