    In the 1950s, the house un-american activities committee blacklisted 320 people who were associated with the entertainment industry because of alleged communist propaganda and influence in the movie industry. These artists, including actors, directors, screenwriters, were boycotted by the studios and had to go underground or leave the U. S to find work. Some of them, like Dalton Trumbo, wrote under pseudonyms or names of colleagues.
