The Soviet blockade of Berlin was done to stop the allied forces from getting access to the Allied controlled regions of Berlin via rail, road and water. The US Air Force along with the Royal Air Force of Great Britain started airdropping supplies to support the people of West Berlin. The Air Force of both the countries together flew more than 200000 sorties in one year and provided upto 4700 tons of supplies each day. This negated the influence of the blockade created by the Soviet Union. Although the Soviets thought that the flying sorties would not have a great effect, but slowly they understood that the blockade was becoming insignificant.
