How does the traditional system of varnashrama dharma compare to other systems of social organization or class stratification with which you are familiar?

I think the Indian social stratification is more focus on their functions in society. For examples, Brahmins are people who will teach others about their society and culture while the Modern classifications are more focus on their economic standing in society. The Upper class is the rich people while the lower class is the poorest people in the community.
