The Jay Treaty, also known as The Treaty of Amity, Commerce, and Navigation, was a treaty between Britain and The United States. Created in 1795 with main purpose of averting war, which also resolved issues remaining since the Treaty of Paris of 1783.

The main benefits for the American country from this treaty were that basically Britain had to respect American neutrality rights, would also have to pay for American ships captured ilegally and surrender their military posts in the North. They also wanted to to maintain its neutral status in the war between Britain and France, and mantain commerce with the British.
