The Renaissance was a movement, or rather a gradual process, through which the science and philosophy were brought back to life and the Church was pushed aside. This started in what is now Italy, and it quickly spread around most of its territory among the people that were interested in resurrecting the science and philosophy and move into another more prosperous direction than what the Church offered. From Italy, this process was spreading out gradually on the territories across Western Europe, which little by little led to the formation of new elite in the society that managed to strip the Church of its dominant role. Unlike the popular belief, the ordinary people didn't really had any clue about the Renaissance, and it was not a sudden wake up call among the masses, but instead it was only people from the higher circles that were leading it and spreading it.
