Japan has a parliamentary system of government where the legislature is the primary lawmaking body of the state. The Japanese parliament is the Diet, that consists of two houses: The House of Representatives and the House of Councillors. The lower house is the primary power of the Diet which is bicameral, and therefore a bill becomes a law if its passed by both chambers, the lower house has power to override, by a two-thirds vote. The lower house also chooses the prime minister and has virtual control of the budgeting process. Law is passed by the house of representatives and the decision put in the house of Councillors who can pass or veto it. These are the features of the parliamentary system in Japan.
