How did the plebeians gain the right to vote and hold political office in the Roman Republic?

    In order to gain the right to vote and hold political office, the Plebeians began threatening to leave Rome, and instead set up their own state which would be known as concilium plebis. Although their demands were met in some ways as a result of these threats, in others the patricians still kept most control over the senate.
