Which was the result of the Act of Union in 1801?

The northern and southern parts of Ireland united to become a country independent from Great Britain.

Great Britain joined with Ireland to become the United Kingdom.

England and Scotland joined to become the Great Britain.

Scotland and Northern Ireland joined to become the United Kingdom.

    The correct answer is Great Britain joined with Ireland to become the United Kingdom.

    The correct name is Act of union of 1800 however and not 1801 but it is still nevertheless the same thing. It united Ireland and Britain into what became United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. They are still active but have been repealed in the Republic of Ireland which is nowadays independent.
