The Dutch were the first colonizers of New York City. They landed in 1614 and established "New Amsterdam."
Eventually, in 1664, the Dutch would cede New Amsterdam to the English who would rename is New York.
Still, many of New York's oldest and richest families are descendants of the early Dutch colonizers.
