In the war of terror today does containment still play a major role in halting terrorism in today's world?

Containment was largely a strategy that was actively pursued by the United States in its efforts to combat communism and contain the Soviet Union's influence to particular regions and to prevent its expansion. Containment is not actively talked about as related to the war on terror, but instead the great powers discuss the need to combat terrorism and terrorist groups wherever they exist.
