The American troops controlled the roads leading from Yorktown to the West. This was a very important roadway which played a vital part in the independence of America. The siege was laid down by the American troops which ultimately led the British troops to surrender and engage into peace negotiations with the Americans. This siege led to the treaty of Paris in the year 1783 in which the British were forced to recognize the independent United States of America. King George II was the king of England at that time.
