Both of them were very sophisticated civilizations for their time, and despite being located in places that were lacking in natural resources and the agriculture was very limited, they managed to progress and constantly develop.

The reason for their progress and development was that they managed to properly use what they had on disposal, traded a lot, were in good relations with the other civilizations, and had constant contact and exchange of ideas and technologies with them.

The Minoan and Mycenaean civilizations were growing wine trees, olive trees, and used the sea in order to get to certain materials for making colors and jewelry. The were trading wine, olive oil, purple color, and jewelry, all of which were highly demanded and well paid, and they used them in order to get food and raw materials form other places.
