    The brook farm institute was established in Massachusetts by the transcendentalists. The idea behind its foundation was that of plain living. George Ripley, Charles A Dana, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Ralph Waldo Emerson. In the beginning, it had only 15 members and the members never exceeded 120. Intellectuals, Carpenters and Farmers. School, Fuel, wages, and housing was provided by the community. It was closed in 1846 due to financial issues.
