A bill known as the Kansas-Nebraska bill was passed in 1854 that was mostly on the opposing side of the Missouri Compromise. There stand was to support equal rights to all Southern citizens.

Explanation:

The Kansas-Nebraska Bill allowed statuses such as slave and free and this was a violation to the Missouri Compromise, which had lasted about 30 years. People who were anti-slavery met together with the opinion of making a new group, the Republican Party. March 20, 1854 was marked as the day of the founding of the Republican party.

This party opposed the rule of slavery in the territories of the west. They were a group that stood for the rights of African Americans and fought for them.
